From its creation in 1881, the London Chamber of Commerce recognised the need for improved commercial and technical secondary education alongside advanced foreign language courses. The CommercEducation Committee of the London Chamber of Commerce was appointed in 1887, and the first LCCI examinations were held later that same year.

The changing structure of industry and employment in the UK and across Europe had increased the need for members of staff to develop clerical and commercial skills. In response to this demand, LCCI designed a series of vocational qualifications to assess candidates' abilities.

As a charitable foundation, LCCI provided qualifications for interned citizens in France and Germany during the First World War and arranged exams through the Red Cross for candidates in German Prisoner of War camps in World War Two. We have a proud history of awarding scholarships and prizes to outstanding candidates, and our Medallion awards are highly coveted.

In December 2002, followinga merger with Goal plc (Global Online Assessment for Learning), LCCI became part of Education Development International plc (EDI), a leading provider of vocational qualifications and online assessment solutions.
